After ten years of successful production of Monkey Business, first filmed by Tigress and then Meridian ITV, Monkey Life was created in 2006, and they are both shown on Animal Planet and other channels worldwide.
Set in Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset, UK, the series follows the nail-biting rescue and rehabilitation stories of some of the most abused and neglected monkeys in the world, and the unwavering hard work of Alison Cronin in her ongoing mission to stop the illegal smuggling of primates from the wild. Refugees and chimps that were found abused in laboratories, circus tents or as photographers props are rehabilitated here and given the chance to spend the rest of their days being cared for in a natural environment.
Filmed over the course of a year, this heart-warming series follows the day-to-day dramas and personalities of these, our closest relatives. From power struggles and dramas, to friendship bonds and new additions to the group, Monkey Life follows some of the most beautiful creatures on the planet, and the team who are devoted to working with them.
Two of the monkeys (no not at the Hotel) but at Monkey World are Butch and Buxom. Both the owners of the Waterford Lodge Hotel have been to visit them and think they are great.
Butch is a male chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) who was used as a photographers prop in Spain. He arrived at the park on 05/09/89 and we estimated he was born during 1983. He arrived at Monkey World at the same time as Charlie. Butch has quite a strong personality but gets on well with the others and has become the dominant chimp in the bachelor group.
Buxom is a male chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) who arrived from Windsor Safari Park, when it closed down, on 31/05/93 and was born on 29/01/82. He was born at Port Lympne in Kent and is the half-brother of Jestah. They get on very well and their alliance is a strong one. Together they are high ranking pair in the bachelor group.
